Arden Soulbearer has fought a god, defeated a necromancer, and driven enemy invaders out of her homeland. Now, the only reward she desires is to marry the man who’s been by her side through it all--her knight protector, Dev. But with her happy ending almost in reach, an ancient crime returns to haunt them... and the punishment is Dev’s death.
A century ago, a Soulbearer stole a sacred relic from the Ornathians, and now their king demands a sacrifice of Dev's blood to lift the blight cursing his people. Arden’s only hope to free Dev from the king's prison is to find the relic. But first, she must outwit the one person who knows where the relic is—-Loku, the God of Chaos whose soul resides within her.

I love this series! Arden has grown up so much during the course of this saga, from shy bar maid, to where she can actually stand toe to toe with Loku and not be swayed by him, and her determination to save Dev before the time ran out. As usual, I love Loku’s sense of humor, and off-color side-comments while Arden is interacting with others (I almost wish the others in the story could hear him as well). I did miss Dev from this installment, but then there’s not much to do while in captivity. Chaos was a wonderful setting, though it did feel based a little on Oz. And I have to say, that I love that the author left it open enough for another installment in this series to come, since I really hate saying goodbye to the characters already. (Especially with so much more that can be done with the series. Like I really hope we get to see more of Arden getting to know her father, since we barely saw him in this one, and I really loved seeing Dev and Arden in love and the scene of them together was all too brief). I can’t wait for the next book! Yay!Product details

A Soul For Atonement The Soulbearer Trilogy Book 4 eBook Crista McHugh Reviews
I was pleasantly surprised that Crista McHugh wrote a fourth book in the Soulbearer Series. I enjoyed A Soul for Atonement and can't wait for another book! I thoroughly enjoy this series!
Bb bb bbbb n bv you are not so sure to vvvv bbb you are not uuu huh that's interesting and fun to uuuuuu
Was kind of hoping it would be longer!
It has occurred to me why these books don't really excite me, though I should have realized there would be more sub genres to fantasy than the most common & original ones. These could as easily fall into the romance section of the bookstore as fantasy, & I simply do not enjoy romance novels.
These books have been shallow in everything but fantasy perfect relationships that don't exist. In my opinion, it is the writing equivalent to showing models and celebrities photoshopped and set up to be the standard our growing girls face when trying to become a woman. What they see in the mirror cannot ever match the impossible image of the photo edited thighs and hips of women that are not naturally possible. Can a steady diet of romance novels warp expectations of real life relationships?
However, since I hope these are not included in the young adult section and are read by women who are old enough (& experienced enough) to know better than to fall into the trap of expecting blissful simultaneous orgasms each time one falls into bed with the beautiful, nearly flawless man they would give their life to protect. And no disagreement cannot be fixed by a good exhaustive romp under the sheets among the other ridiculous expectations of two people trying to hammer out a life together. Or maybe it's just a few harmless hours of escapism?
But the thing that really bothers me about these is the world we've seen so far is really good and if time and effort were put into developing the politics and back stories of how the different species developed and got to this point instead romance novels, this could really be an interesting world to explore. But those things take time and energy and difficult decisions this author obviously has no time or inclination to do. I was hoping to finally get there with this one but it didn't happen. So I'll give up and stop here.
If you're a fan of the series then this will be a required read. Dev is arrested and his life will be forfeit if Arden can't outwit the chaos God Loku. The book holds your attention but it suffers from being short and from the lovers spending so much of it apart.
This series was fun and captivating to finally hear wedding bells to ring at the end. From beginning to the finale, the whole story was revealed with such aspirations, ups, and downs. I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this book to anyone who wants to travel on a different cycle path. You'll cry and celebrate the fantastic characters and their adventures.
Short, barely beyond novella length, this felt more like a space holder in the series. Not the same depth, development, growth, or excitement as previous books. Still enjoyable, but I hope it is a bridge to better things to come.
For the record, three stars is a book I like and recommend, four is for something REALLY good, and a five star rating is reserved for those books I would place on a periodic re-read list - rare, precious, entertaining, thought-provoking, endearing. This is a strong three star book.
